As part of the Hull 2020 transformation programme, organisations across the city have been looking at new and innovative ways in which public services (health, fire, police and local government) can work better together, including sharing resources from a single location. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is a fully committed partner in the Hull 2020 programme. A key idea being explored by Humberside Fire and Rescue is to locate a small operational fire station on the Integrated Care Centre site, to better support and protect the local community, particularly its more vulnerable members. Humberside Fire and Rescue has worked very successfully over recent years to engage with people aged over 55, alongside other community-based services. A natural integration with health and social care services that support more vulnerable people could allow them to deliver enhanced fire safety and prevention measures for people who are most at risk of fire within their own homes. In addition, there is a real desire for a single visit to a resident’s property to serve a number of purposes. For example, Community Safety Officers on a home visit could provide specialist support and advice, in partnership with health and social care, to help people live safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
