(Job Vacancy Community Engagement Worker)

Job Description of Community Engagement Worker

This role requires an engaging individual who is enthusiastic in assisting others.
The Worker act as a link between communities, with our Partners and with a range of other local authority and voluntary sector providers, such as the police, social Service, schools, NHS and Local Authorities.
An involvement in projects which targets cultural, economic or geographical disadvantaged communities by identifying their needs and issues, and formulating strategies to address those issues is a priority.
This work will also focus on areas such as the homeless, the long-term unemployed, families with young children from the BME Communities.

In doing so, it will help communities to bring about social change and improve their quality of life. This may involve working with individuals, families or whole communities, empowering them to:
1. Identify their assets, needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities
2. Plan what they want to achieve, what is achievable and take appropriate action
3. Develop activities and services to generate aspiration and confidence.

Responsibilities
1. Identifying community skills, assets, issues and needs
2. Ensure that BME Communities have their say on issues affecting them.
3. Developing new resources in dialogue with the BME communities.
4. Help build links with other groups and agencies
5. Helping to raise public awareness on issues relevant to the BME communities
6. Liaise with interested groups and individuals to set up appropriate new services
7. Plan, attend and coordinate meetings and events
8. Encourage participation in relevant activities
9. General administrative duties.

Skills and experience requirement

You’ll need to show:
1. Advocacy and networking skills
2. Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills
3. Good listening skills
4. Research and report-writing skills, and the ability to interpret or present data
5. Knowledge and understanding of BME communities and their social issues
6. A non-judgemental and positive attitude
7. Creative thinking and problem-solving ability
8. Compassion and the ability to empathise with people’s life experiences
9. Fundraising – at management level there is an increasing need to identify and pursue sources of funding.
10. It is important to have a proven interest in community and social issues and at least a year’s involvement in a relevant area.

Working hours
Part-time (16 hours per week), due to the nature of funding.
Each working day will vary depending on your scheduled activities for that week. The work will often include unsocial hours, such as evenings and weekends, so considerable flexibility is required.

Salary
Starting salaries fall between £15,015 p.a. pro rata (£6,864.00, Actual)
