Hours of work: 17 hours per week, term time only.
Can be worked flexibly but must include Fridays and some Thursdays.
The position: Downright Special is a charity, established in 2007, which provides support to children with Down syndrome across Hull and East Yorkshire. They now have a vacancy for a Specialist teacher to work with children who are mainly in Key Stage 1.
The successful applicant will be responsible for delivery of an education intervention programme, using toys, equipment and educational programmes in order to meet the needs of, and support children with Down syndrome in their learning journey.
Working in close partnership with teaching assistants and teachers, you will be expected to plan and deliver small group sessions structured to facilitate the development of children through Key Stage 1, tailored to the specific learning profile of children with Down syndrome.
You will also be expected to visit primary schools to provide support and advice on including a child with Down syndrome, for example by attending Annual Review meetings. A qualified teacher with excellent communication skills and a passion for inclusion, you must have recent and relevant experience of working with children with additional needs and behavioural issues. Some knowledge of special educational needs related to children with Down syndrome will be a distinct advantage.
