Building Capacity, Providing Representation, Advocacy & IAG to BME Group
This Project is aimed reducing loneliness of the older population in Hull; especially those in BAME communities. We use activities that are fun, sociable and, importantly for BAME individuals, culturally appropriate and inclusive. In delivering this project we make use of the Volunteer resources that we have who are bilingual for the sessions.
The project provide support that is sensitive to cultural attitudes and practices to enable us reach and engage older BAME people, and it enables the support to link to their culture to create a sense of belonging.
Culturally sensitive activities successfully helps reduce loneliness by providing links to their cultural heritage, such as holding events with food or showing a film.
We also recognise that having some sessions being culturally exclusive will also improve engagement.
The Project is aimed to:
– To create a sense of urgency by developing a project where there is a gap in provision.
– Form a powerful coalition with the local community by making a difference.
– Create a vision for change by providing a project that is led by local people.
– Remove obstacles for older people to become engaged in their community, to make friends and feel less isolated.
– Create short-term wins by reaching out to local BAME community organisations and promoting the project
– empowering people to get involved, identify beneficiaries and help us to help them.
– Build on the change by developing the project, sharing best practice and embracing others to be part of what we are doing to make a difference.
This is a new project and it will make a huge difference to BAME communities in Hull.
